Happy Halloween!

As always, Halloween was super fun! We had a friend, Garrett, trick-or-treat with us this year. Hudson was a knight in shining armor, and Reagan was the queen! Of course, Reagan has now decided that she is embarrassed if we discussed that Hudson was HER knight in shining armor! We went to several houses in our neighborhood, and got lots of treats! The people in the neighborhood do a great job decorating and preparing for Halloween....although some of it was actually a little scary this year. The night ended with John wearing Hudson's knight helmet.....

Safety Patrol

Reagan loves her new school and a few weeks ago, she was able to help out with kid drop off in the morning. Typically, the older kids get to help, but there was a day a few weeks ago, that they needed extra help. She and Addison were the official Safety Patrol of the morning! Of course, she thought she was hot stuff!

Ft. Worth Air Show

We finally made it to the Ft. Worth Airshow this year! We have been meaning to go for the last several years, but something always seemed to happen. We made it this past Sunday and had a blast! They had several planes, helicopters, and trucks to see and sit in, a kids zone area to play in, and of course, the performers in the air! The weather was beautiful, and we enjoyed sitting out in the open air all day! We came home tired but are already planning our trip again next year!

Pumpkin Patch

Every year, we head to the local Pumpkin Patch to pick out pumpkins for the season. The kids have a great time trying to choose the pumpkins that they like the best! We ended up with four pumpkins and plan on carving some of them....Pictures to come soon!

Petting Zoo and Rides!

There are many things that we enjoy every year at the fair. Besides the farm, we always stop in at the petting zoo, have great food, and then play games at the Midway followed by rides. The petting zoo this year included a baby giraffe and a camel! It is fun to get up close and personal with new animals! If you are from the Dallas area, you know that a big part of the State Fair is the food! I think they have figured out ways to batter and fry everything! We always get corn dogs and cotton candy, but we also decided to try the fried oreos and fried snickers this year! Who would have thought you could fry either one of those? Games and rides are also always on our list to do. The kids both came home with several toys won at the games, and got to ride several rides. We were all super exhausted by the end of the day, but had a blast! Can't wait until next year!

State Fair of Texas 2013

October is the time for the State Fair of Texas! Every year, we try to make it to the fair! Although, we basically do the same things yearly, the kids have a great time and so do we! The kids actually get a "fair day" at school so it is nice to be able to go to the fair during the week when the crowds aren't as bad. We start every year, by going to the "farm" and picking peaches, feeding the chickens, cows and sheep, and then riding the tractors! I think the kids especially enjoy the free treat at the end!

Sunny San Diego!

The beaches and coastline are beautiful as well. We actually visited a beach in La Jolla that wild seals and sea lions like to come up to the shore. Unfortunately, there weren't any on the shore when we were there, but we did see several close to the shore. We had an absolutely amazing time in San Diego! The weather was great, the scenery was awesome, and we all had a lot of fun!

San Diego Safari Park

San Diego Zoo actually has two parts....the traditional zoo as well as a Safari Park about thirty minutes from San Diego. It has several of the same animals that the traditional zoo has, but has them in more of a natural environment, with a true "safari" area that includes giraffes, rhinos, and several other species that typically reside in Africa. One of the great things about the Safari park is the animal encounters. They have several different "animal ambassadors" that come out on a leash to a non enclosed area, so that people can get close to the animals, and learn more about them. We were able to see several different animals in these encounters including an owl, a kangaroo, and a medium sized wild cat, called a Caracal. These are wild cats that reside in Africa and are about 40 pounds in size, and can jump up to 10 feet in the air to capture their prey. Another interesting thing that the Safari Park has is a "Cheetah Run." This is actually a 100 yard area that is fenced in, but with no other enclosures. They have a small toy that the Cheetah chases down the 100 yards. When we were there, they had a dog run the first race, and he clocked a time of over 11 seconds. They then had the Cheetah run the distance in just over 5 seconds! Cheetahs can reach speeds of 70 mph, and it is amazing to watch them do this!

USS Midway

One of our stops on the itinerary in San Diego included the USS Midway. This is an aircraft carrier docked in San Diego Bay. She was commissioned after the end of WWII, and was the largest ship in the world until 1955. She served the Navy for 47 years and was a part of the Vietnam War as well as Operation Desert Storm. There were a number of planes and helicopters on the Midway. On several, you could even get into the cockpit and play with the controls. All three of the kids enjoyed this (Reagan, Hudson and John!). Hudson absolutely loved getting into all the different aircraft. Right before we left, he talked us into going inside one more time to look at a few of the jets. I'm not sure who had more fun....the kids or John!
